House of Mirrors

Asking for Change Is Allowed

“Can I ask for something without writing their answer?”

Asking for Change Is Allowed

“Stay in your Mirror” is not a gag order.

You are allowed to say that something is not working for you.

You are allowed to ask someone to do something differently. You can negotiate, make agreements, disagree, revisit an agreement, or decide something is not workable for you.

The Mirror simply gives you somewhere to notice when a request quietly becomes authorship.

One possibility: “You need to change.”

Another possibility: “This isn't working for me. Can we talk about what might work for both of us?”

The second sentence is not the Official Sassiverse Approved Sentence™.

It is one example of bringing your experience into a shared problem without deciding in advance what must happen inside the other person's Mirror.

A Shared-Life Experiment

The basket is full. The Mirrors are different.

Imagine two people living together. One sees an overflowing laundry basket and thinks, That needs attention today. The other notices the same basket and thinks, That can wait until tomorrow. The laundry is real. So are the different reactions. Neither reaction, by itself, tells us how much either person cares.

But the first Traveler still gets to ask: “Could we work out when the laundry gets done, and who is carrying it?” The other Traveler gets to describe what they see, what they can offer, and what they need. An agreement may take more than one try.

You don’t have to make someone else’s Mirror wrong to ask them to make room for what’s in yours.

This is not a demand to tolerate an unfair arrangement. The shared work still needs attention. The experiment is asking about the work without inventing a verdict about the person.

Through Your Lens

What would I like to ask?

What actually isn't working for me?

What change would I like to request?

What am I assuming about the other person's intentions?

What could be negotiated, and what matters enough to become a boundary?

Can I make room for their answer, even if it isn't yes?

Maybe the request lands. Maybe it starts a longer conversation. Maybe you learn that the two of you need different arrangements. None of those outcomes means you were wrong to have a voice.

Keep Wandering
