House of Mirrors

I Don't Know

“I may never get the missing piece.”

An Empty Space in the Story

Sometimes the answer does not arrive.

You may never know why they said it.

You may never know what they were thinking.

You may never get the conversation, explanation, apology, reply, missing detail, or ending that would make the story feel complete.

Sometimes new information arrives later.

Sometimes it doesn't.

The Mirror cannot reflect information you do not have.

The Tempting Part

An empty space really wants a story.

Not knowing can be uncomfortable.

So the mind may reach for something that closes the gap.

They never answered because they don't care.

It failed because I wasn't good enough.

They looked away because they were judging me.

If I could just think about it one more time, I would figure it out.

Any of those stories could contain something true.

But a story that makes the blank space feel less blank is not automatically the missing information.

“I don't know” is information too.

Three Surprisingly Complete Words

I. Don't. Know.

They do not mean you did not try hard enough.

They do not mean the question does not matter.

They do not mean you have to stop caring, wondering, asking, or hoping more information eventually arrives.

They can simply mark the edge of what you know right now.

I know what happened to me.

I know how it landed for me.

I know what I observed.

I know what I need or choose from here.

I don't know that part.

You do not have to fill the last line just to make the story look finished.

Through Your Lens

What if the blank stays blank?

If there is a missing piece you keep reaching for, you might hold the Mirror up for a moment.

What do I actually know?

What am I hoping to know?

What have I filled in because I don't have that answer?

If the answer never arrives, what is still mine to choose?

You may keep looking for information.

You may ask a question. Set a boundary. Make a decision. Wait. Change your mind. Leave the space open.

Uncertainty does not have to become certainty before you can keep adventuring.

The Mirror Has an Edge

Not every story gets a final scene.

The House of Mirrors cannot tell you what somebody else never told you.

It cannot send you backward to collect evidence that no longer exists.

It cannot turn a possibility into a fact because certainty would feel better.

Sometimes the most accurate reflection available is simply:

I don't know.

And the Traveler standing in front of that unfinished story is still allowed to have a next step.

Keep Wandering

You do not have to finish the story to leave the room.

Take what you know. Leave what you don't know open.

The missing piece can stay missing for now.
