House of Mirrors

The Mirror Again

Oh no. I'm doing it again.

A Familiar Reflection

There it is again.

Someone walks past without saying hello. Your mind supplies a story: They are ignoring me.

Then you catch it. Hang on. I do not actually know that.

Three days later, a short reply arrives. Your mind supplies another story: They are annoyed with me.

You catch that one too.

“Oh no. I'm doing it again.”

The Mirror tilts toward you, apparently delighted.

“Excellent. Not because you assumed—because you noticed.”

The House Scoreboard

There isn't one.

No medals for a perfect streak of never making an assumption. No official certificate for guessing what everyone thinks.

And certainly no need for a second Mirror devoted to judging how badly you used the first. One overconfident Mirror is plenty of furniture.

Maybe you notice immediately. Maybe hours later. Maybe next week. This isn't a test.

Noticing is not another verdict about who you are.

Through Your Lens

What happens after the little huh?

What story arrived first?

When did I notice it was a story?

Am I telling myself a second story about being wrong for having the first?

Do I want to check, ask, leave the question open, or keep walking?

Maybe something changes. Maybe you simply notice: Huh. There it is again.

You can keep this ingredient, change it, or leave it here. No correct response is required.

Wander On

The Mirror will be here.

This room is about noticing a familiar assumption returning. Looking again because new evidence has arrived is a different question, with its own place in the House's preserved plans.
