House of Mirrors

The Mirror Turns Inward

What if some of this story is about me?

Inside the House

The unexpected guest in the reflection

Jenny used to enter a difficult conversation convinced that the trouble was happening entirely on the other side of the room. There was what Dan said. There was what Jenny heard. Surely that was the whole picture.

But the longer she lived and kept trying, the more she noticed another Traveler had come into the room with her: the Jenny who had learned long ago that conflict meant getting away as fast as possible.

Dan might be trying to keep talking. Jenny might be hearing danger in the very fact that the talking continued. Two real experiences could be happening at once. Neither person had a window into the other person's head.

And suddenly the Mirror wasn't only asking what Dan meant. It was asking what Jenny had brought with her.

Inside the House

A very inconvenient discovery

It would have been lovely if noticing an old reaction meant it immediately packed its suitcase and left. Unfortunately, Jenny's old reactions were apparently very comfortable. They had snacks. 😂

She could understand that her history shaped the moment and still feel every bit of the urgency. Knowing where a feeling came from didn't make it imaginary. It gave her another thing to be curious about.

Perhaps she needed a pause. Perhaps she needed words. Perhaps Dan needed to know what the conversation felt like from her side. Perhaps none of those ingredients fit yet.

Through Your Lens

Try that discovery through your lens

Have you ever discovered that a moment felt bigger because it touched something from an earlier chapter of your life?

Maybe you have. Maybe not. Maybe what you brought into the room was excitement, hope, an expectation, or a memory rather than fear.

What would change if you could notice your own history in the reflection without deciding it explains everything about the other person?

Inside the House

The Mirror doesn't issue a verdict

Jenny's history wasn't wrong. Dan's wish to talk wasn't automatically right. The Mirror didn't get to pick a winner.

It offered a tiny new possibility: there might be more than one story in the room, and Jenny could become curious about the part she actually had access to—her own.

Some days that was plenty. Some days she needed her Parachute first. Both days belonged on her trail.

Keep Wandering

What caught the light?

Maybe an ingredient fits. Maybe you would try something entirely different. Your next move belongs to you.
