House of Mirrors
When the Evidence Doesn't Fit
Has anything ever refused to fit the story?
An unexpected piece
Perhaps someone sees you differently than you expected. Perhaps a problem remains after changing what you thought caused it. The Mirror turns the new piece sideways. Apparently the puzzle did not read the instructions.
New information can challenge an old explanation without giving you a complete new one.
Jenny and Jedi
Jenny had wondered whether she caused Jedi's struggles. She had heard that a dog was a reflection of the person holding the leash. When Jenny was away during a boarding stay, Jedi still struggled. When he returned, he seemed shut down, and she hand-fed him as he settled in. Jenny does not know everything that happened while he was away.
Jenny had been removed from the experiment. Jedi was still Jedi.
That challenged an old explanation. It did not establish what caused his behavior or what happened at boarding.
Another piece
Maybe you believed you could not handle a difficult conversation. Then you handled one. That does not prove every future conversation will go well or require a shiny new identity.
You do not have to throw away an old belief because one new piece of information appears. Just notice the piece.
Through Your Lens
What did I believe before?
What new information arrived?
What still fits? What does not?
What remains unknown?
Would I like to revise anything, or just notice the piece?
Curiosity does not need to rush in and finish the puzzle.
The Mirror Again is a different door: noticing a familiar assumption return. This room is about new evidence.
