What's Growing Here?

What if NOW isn't the end of the story?

A Curious Question

What is a growth mindset?

Is it someone who loves to learn? Someone who jumps at the chance to try a new project? Someone who believes they can figure things out, even when they don't know how to do something… yet?

Here's a curious possibility: what if the way you think about learning changes depending on what you're learning?

Maybe you happily experiment with a new recipe, even when dinner turns into something the dog won't eat.

But try learning a new skill in front of other people?

Suddenly, making a mistake feels very different.

What's happening there?

What if you're adventurous in one corner of your life, but in another you hear yourself saying, “I'm just not good at that”?

Perhaps a mindset isn't a permanent label. Perhaps it's something worth getting curious about.

Two little words—NOW and YET—might offer a clue.

So, what's growing here?

Beside the Trail

Wait. Is That Licorice?

Something colorful catches your eye beside the trail.

It's a tiny tape measure. But instead of ordinary measuring tape, there's a little piece of licorice sticking out.

You give it a tug. And another. And another.

How much licorice is IN this thing?

You slide the lock button up and back. Suddenly, the licorice smells like strawberries.

Wait. Wasn't that cherry a moment ago?

You pick up your discovery, and a tiny compartment magically appears in your Backpack.

Perfect fit.

SASSIVERSE BACKPACK TOOL

The Licorice Tape Measure

ACQUIRED
Purpose
See where you are NOW, notice how far you have come, and stay curious about where you might go.
Materials
One retractable licorice tape, a little curiosity, and an apparently unlimited supply of licorice.
Weight
Almost nothing inside its special Backpack compartment. Its length remains a mystery.
Magical Properties
Never seems to run out. Retracts perfectly, even after traveling miles. Every time you slide the lock button up and back, the licorice changes flavor. Nobody knows how many flavors there are, either.

Things You Might Try

Maybe there's something you've been curious about learning or trying. The tape can help you notice where you are NOW—and look back at how far you have already come. Sometimes the distance behind you is the most surprising measurement of all.

You might wonder what could be possible YET, try a little experiment, or simply tuck the tape away until another day. There's no requirement to stretch it farther.

And when you're finished? Retract the tape or eat it. Either is perfectly acceptable. There will always be more licorice.

WORDS TO CARRY“NOW is a measurement. YET is a possibility.”

The tape can show you where you are and how far you have come. Only you decide what to explore next.
