House of Mirrors · A Dan and Jenny Story
The Grapes of Wrath 🍇
One little reminder. An entire courtroom of grapes.
A real little kitchen adventure with Jenny and Dan.
A perfectly ordinary kitchen scene
Dan gave Jenny a familiar reminder: “Don't forget to eat that before it goes to waste.”
And Jenny's brain immediately had a rebuttal ready.
“Oh, really? What about those grapes YOU forgot?”
There had been grapes. And other fruit. Some of it had gone bad. The evidence was practically preparing to testify.
But then Jenny caught the thought. Wait. Was that what the reminder meant?
She checked with Dan. No. It was just a reminder to enjoy the food before it spoiled.
Oh.
Case closed?
Not quite. Jenny's brain was already drafting the sequel: Well, next time I find forgotten grapes, I'll remind YOU.
And then came another pause—and Jenny laughed at herself. A reminder can simply be a reminder. It can be fair, kind, and useful in either direction.
Maybe one day a forgotten bunch of grapes will prompt a grin and a playful, “Here's your mirror!” Maybe Jenny and Dan will both laugh. Maybe not. That scene hasn't happened yet.
But this one did: Jenny noticed an assumption while it was happening, asked a question, and got to continue an ordinary day without turning it into a fight.
A look in your mirror
What story showed up first?
What was actually said? What did your mind add? How might you check before treating the added story as fact?
And if your mind immediately writes a sequel—could you notice that one, too?
Sometimes new words create room for clarity. Sometimes for a boundary. Sometimes, delightfully, for laughter.
Jenny didn't have to arrive at Cherry on Top afterward. She was already there—and stayed.
