Can you keep discovering a world you already know?
Today's game: go out into your ordinary day and see what catches you. Bring a friend, make it a family game, or play quietly on your own.
Set out →Today's Expedition
Before you head out, make one small decision: Today I'm going to look for wonder. Tell a friend or keep it to yourself. The game starts when you step back into your day.
Choose something to seek: a surprising color, a tiny creature, a kind moment, the Moon, or a thing you've walked past a hundred times. Small counts. Enormous counts. You can also leave the search wide open and see what finds you.
Now go about your actual day. Walk the dog. Run into the grocery store for one thing and come out with six. Wait for someone. Look up. Keep a little corner of your attention free for wonder.
What else is here?
Bring Another Traveler
In the middle of the store, one of you spots something. Don't point yet. Give the other person a clue and let them guess what caught you. Then switch.
“I spy something that made me laugh.” Is it the enormous cereal mascot? The cart with one single banana? No? Another clue, please.
You can play from a car window, on a walk, or while looking at the night sky. You can also go solo. The game travels with you. No special destination required.
When Something Catches You
Stop for it. Look again. Let it be interesting, funny, beautiful, strange, or hard to explain. The noticing is the adventure.
You don't need to decide its Sparkle Flair ahead of time. Afterward, if you want words for how it caught you, borrow shared Flair from the Language Book—or make it your own.
Open the Daily Sparkles / Wonder book →A Little Sign by Jen's Door
When Jen was younger, someone she loved said something she has never forgotten: We're just sitting around waiting to die.
They were in their fifties. What stayed with her was the feeling of hearing someone she cared about describe life that way.
She didn't know everything they were carrying. She felt for them. And their words left her wondering: Could growing older look another way? Could there still be things to discover, enjoy, and look forward to?
Years later, a little sign by her back door keeps that question company. It says, “Create Your Happiness.” She sees it as she heads out into the day.
Those words have been through ordinary life with her. Jen and Dan found laughter when dinner was soup or macaroni and cheese made with water. She enjoys the life they have now, and remembers that joy was there when they had very little, too.
One place she found to begin was surprisingly small: noticing something she liked looking at. A color. A flower. Light doing something interesting. A dog being magnificently ridiculous. For a moment: Oh. I love that.
That moment gave her something to follow. This Adventure is an invitation to see what might catch you.
Follow Your Own Sparkles
After a while, Jen began noticing more than things she loved to look at. She noticed things she loved doing. Time with Sassy. Learning something. Making something colorful. Sharing a laugh.
Now, when she wonders what to do with a little available time, she has some clues. What do I enjoy? What could fit into today? She calls making room for those things “stacking my odds” for happiness.
Maybe your discoveries become a list. Maybe they're photos on your phone, a song you play again, or simply a quiet recognition: I'd like more of that. A whole afternoon of something you love might be available. Or five minutes. Or just the pleasure of noticing it today.
What caught you might be entirely different from what caught the Traveler beside you. Excellent. Imagine how much we'd miss if everybody investigated the same banana.
What have you noticed enjoying lately? Would you like a little more of it?
Room for More Than One Feeling
Jen has carried some very heavy Rocks. In the Sassiverse, a Rock is a Traveler's own experience and story of something that happened—the feelings, meaning, and observations they carry.
Sometimes, she says, it can feel as though your face is an inch away from that Rock. It fills your view. She knows how hard looking away can be.
She has also experienced a happy moment while she was deeply sad. A laugh, a beautiful detail, a little time doing something she loved. The painful thing hadn't disappeared. Both feelings were there.
There is room in her life for processing what hurts, finding support, and learning what helps her steady herself—and for enjoying something along the way. A Sparkle doesn't have to move the Rock to matter.
“That moment is precious. It's gold.”
If something catches you today, you're welcome to pause with it. If nothing does, you still belong here. The Adventure can wait beside you.
Bring It Back
Text a friend: “I found my Daily Sparkle!” Send a photo, a clue, or just the story. Ask what they noticed. Maybe they found something you'd have walked right past.
Make it a family game on an ordinary Tuesday. Everyone goes to school, work, or wherever the day takes them. At dinner, trade discoveries. What caught you? What did someone else see?
Some days one person has a spectacular story. Another found an excellent bug. Someone didn't notice anything today. They're still welcome at the table—and tomorrow is another expedition.
“COME LOOK!” works across a room, across a table, and across a text message.
Playing solo? Bring your discovery back to the Sassiverse Facebook page. Jenny and Sassy share their Daily Sparkles there, and the Sassiverse wants to hear what caught you. See what other Travelers noticed, share yours if you like, and let someone else borrow your eyes for a moment.
See recent Sassiverse posts here, or open Facebook to share your find and join the conversation.
A Little Reminder to Wear
Jen's little sign became a colorful shirt: flowers, a golden butterfly, and three words she likes to carry into the day. Maybe it reminds you to notice a small wonder, make time for something you enjoy, or let yourself have a good moment while other things remain unfinished.
The Adventure is already yours. No shirt, purchase, or sign-up needed. For anyone who'd enjoy a wearable reminder, here's the one inspired by her story.
