There is room on the trail for makers, finders, curious visitors, and anyone carrying a little possibility forward.

Why Heart Stones?

Heart Stones create opportunities to practice kindness without controlling the outcome.

We make something with care.

We release it.

We trust that its message may matter, even if we never hear the rest of the story.

Sometimes checking to see whether a stone has appeared somewhere new can feel like opening the mailbox and discovering an unexpected birthday card.

It is exciting when a story returns.

It is also part of the practice to be okay when one does not.

We do not release Heart Stones because we expect them to return. We release them because someone we have never met might need one.

A Story from the Trail

One Little Stone

Years before the Heart Stone Adventure had a name, I painted a silver rock with three simple words:

Choose to Shine

The lettering was metallic pink. A tiny heart dotted the “i,” and large rhinestones added a little extra sparkle.

One afternoon, I placed it on top of a parking guardrail in downtown Saint Paul.

The parking lot was closing for the day.

I never saw who picked it up.

Maybe someone found it that evening.

Maybe it waited until the next morning.

I had no idea where its adventure would lead.

Every once in a while, I checked the Facebook community where people shared the painted rocks they had discovered.

Then one day, there it was.

Someone from Florida had found the stone while visiting the Appalachian Mountains.

Winter snow had covered it, and spring had only recently melted the snow away.

The traveler wrote that the message appeared at exactly the right time.

“Choose to Shine” was exactly what they needed to help them keep going.

After returning home to Florida, they shared the story with the community.

That was how I learned that one small stone released in downtown Saint Paul had traveled to the Appalachian Mountains and then home with a traveler to Florida.

I did not need the story to return to me.

But when it did, it reminded me why releasing these messages matters.

We never know when a small message may arrive at exactly the right moment. 💖

There is no single correct Heart Stone.

The care you place into it is part of the adventure.

Let the Adventure Continue

Carry your Heart Stone until you find a place where another traveler might safely discover it.

Perhaps beside a walking trail.

Near a park bench.

At a scenic overlook.

Beside a community garden.

Or somewhere an ordinary day could use a small unexpected sparkle.

Please respect local rules, private property, protected natural areas, and any location where leaving objects is prohibited.

Then let it go.

The stone leaves your hands, but the possibility continues. 💖

The Traveling Message

Help the Finder Continue the Adventure

A small Heart Stone label can be attached to the back before the stone is sealed.

The label will include a QR code leading directly to the Finder’s Trail.

The stone does not need to carry the entire story.

It only needs to offer a little curiosity and an invitation to continue.

After Release

Let the Story Belong to the Trail

You may choose to share a photograph of your Heart Stone before you release it.

You may occasionally check social media to see whether a traveler has shared its journey.

Perhaps one will appear days later.

Perhaps years later.

Perhaps never.

Every possibility belongs to the practice.

The value of the Heart Stone is not measured by whether its story returns to you.

The kindness mattered the moment you released it. 💖
